St. Patrick Center’s McMurphy’s Grill expanding and growing in 2013
St. Patrick Center has announced enhancements to the agency’s long-running employment and training program, McMurphy’s Grill. In 1990, thanks to donations from the Boeing Foundation, Boeing Employees Community Fund, Paul and Midge McKee, and J. Kim Tucci and John Ferrara of The Pasta House Company, McMurphy's Grill opened its doors at 614 North 11th Street in downtown St. Louis as the first-in-the nation full-service restaurant for training clients struggling with homelessness and mental illness. Annually, the program enables 30 to 40 people to discover successful careers in the restaurant industry.
“While the new Mississippi River Bridge and Tucker Boulevard are being built on the ‘front door’ into downtown St. Louis near our building, St. Patrick Center is embarking on a project to relocate McMurphy’s Grill from its present site to the ground floor of our agency at 800 North Tucker,” said St. Patrick Center Chief Operating Officer Greg Vogelweid. “We are grateful to the St. Louis community for many years of generously supporting McMurphy’s Grill, and we look forward to introducing the new McMurphy’s concept to the public next year.”
“This location represents so many memories and positive changes for our clients who improved their lives here,” St. Patrick Center founder and director emeritus Edith Cunnane told gatherers recently at McMurphy’s holiday party. “We invite everyone who supported and enjoyed McMurphy’s Grill over the years to come have lunch one last time before the end of December.”
